Mostraumen Fjord Cruise, Guided by Locals — review
My verdict: this is the cheapest way onto the water from Bergen and it undercuts what all three operators charge at their own quay, which is the opposite of what most visitors assume about booking ahead. It is also the listing whose reviewers are most likely to tell you something you would rather have known first: that the good part is at the far end of the trip, and that turning up at the time you were given does not get you the seat you wanted.
What the money actually buys
The three operators running this route publish dock prices of NOK 890, NOK 880 and NOK 840 for an adult in 2026. This listing starts at NOK 672 at the time of writing, which is below all three. I want to be careful about how far that generalises — these are GetYourGuide “from” prices and they move, sometimes because a promotion is running — but the finding itself is real and it is the useful one: booking ahead is not automatically dearer than walking up, which is what most people assume. What it buys is the same water every Mostraumen sailing covers. Out of Vågen past Bryggen, along Byfjorden and Salhusfjorden, under the Nordhordland Bridge, into Osterfjorden and Romarheimsfjorden, through the Mostraumen strait — 50 to 60 metres wide at its narrowest and roughly 600 to 650 metres long, with a tidal current that runs to 7 knots at its strongest — into Mofjorden, turning at Mo in Modalen, which is Norway’s second smallest municipality with about 380 people. None of it is a UNESCO fjord, and that matters more than the price.
Two hours to get to them
David gave this four stars on 9 September 2025 and wrote: “Views were great, but it took 2 hours to get to them.” Wojciech, on 20 September 2025, made the same observation the friendly way round: “The cruise is quite long, all the way to the town of Mo.” Neither is a complaint about the operator. It is a description of the route, and it is accurate: the strait and the waterfall sit at the far end, so the first stretch is city, islands and open fjord, and the payoff is the last part of the trip. Book it as a boat trip rather than a transfer to a viewpoint and the shape of it stops being a disappointment.
Seats, snacks and the deck
Two of the most useful things said about this listing carry no name, because they sit in the listing body rather than the review schema. One reviewer writes: “We were asked to arrive at a certain time and when we did the best seats we’re already taken.” Another: “the snacks and drinks are of course limited and expensive (bring your own!)”. Both are worth acting on. Arrive earlier than the time you are given if a window or a place at the rail matters to you, and put something in your bag. Which quay you are arriving early at is a question in itself, since two of them sit about 320 m apart.
Gwenllian, 12 September 2025, five stars, gives the other practical warning in one sentence: “It was freezing on the main deck but the scenery is stunning. You can still see most of the scenery from inside the boat too.” That is the whole deck-versus-cabin decision. The boats have both, and the operator’s own advice is to dress according to temperature and weather and warm up inside. Nobody in Bergen lends you a coat. What to actually wear is here. One reviewer of this listing describes sailing in frozen water, which is not an exaggeration: Mofjorden, the fjord this boat turns in, is one of the Norwegian fjord arms that freezes near-annually at its innermost end.

Treat the stated arrival time as the latest acceptable one rather than the target. Two things are decided in the ten minutes before boarding: which side of the boat you sit on and whether you get a rail position at all. Neither is allocated when you pay.
